Boudhanath is an ancient Buddhist stupa and one of the largest in the world. I've been documenting the site on a monthly basis since my arrival and am struck by both the serenity of the place and a feeling of constant motion.
The first piece of advice I was given about Boudha was to never walk counter-clockwise around the stupa. The Buddhist practice over is known as circumambulation. Circumambulation is the act of walking clockwise meditatively around an object of veneration - three times or more is a gesture of respect. Doing so reminds Buddhists to keep Buddha's teachings in the center of their lives.
I initially thought this meant that people would walk slowly around the stupa but soon found that I had to stay still in order to capture the brisk movement of the devout worshipers.
